Safari & New Friends

Yesterday was a much needed break from our days of mostly sitting around the hotel or visiting shopping areas. Our driver took us far out from our hotel to the Safari park where we took a train ride through an exhibit that was way cooler than those I have seen in the U.S. (probably because of liability issues!) It was amazing to see so many different types of animals as close up as we were able to. Then we walked through the zoo and got to feed the giraffes. My favorite part was seeing all of the baby animals they had, including little white tiger cubs.
Before we left we decided to take the kids through the jurassic area. The kids were terrified at first, but then Wyatt decided that dinosaurs were really cool and was so excited when we bought him a toy dino set to play with back at the hotel. Later he did a great dinosaur impression for Brian over our video chat!

After our big day at the zoo, our driver took us to our new friends' place near the consulate. They live in a wonderful 5 bedroom apartment in a building that houses many expats that work for the U.S. in China. The view from the balcony was really stunning! We had met them at church on Sunday, and they were so generous to ask us over for dinner the following evening. They were truly an exceptional family! The husband speaks Mandarin, and Wyatt had a great time talking with him about konglong, or dinosaurs. We were really impressed with their two teenaged girls, one of which befriended Annie and played with her before dinner. They were both very intelligent young ladies, and great conversationalist! Before we left, the eldest brought out her American Girl's doll and said that she wanted Annie to have it! Needless to say, we really hope to keep up with this family in the future!!

Today was another free day, which has become a 'figure out what to do' day. The weather, which had been sunny the last couple of days, turned colder and rainy, so outdoors activities didn't sound so great. We decided to try a toy market that we had heard about, and grabbed a taxi to check it out. This turned out not to be one of our better outings. The market was really not made for strollers, but to walk through it with two 40+lb kiddos trying to keep them from touching everything wouldn't have worked either. We didn't stay long, but then getting a taxi back turned out to be difficult as well.

Honestly, I am so ready to go home! China is really neat, and the people here are very nice, but we have been gone for 18 days!! I am ready to take our new sweeties home to be with together with the rest of our family. Tomorrow is our day at the Consulate, and then we hope to have dinner with our good friends from back home who are here picking up their beautiful little girl, too.
